Access to professional legal advice for NGOs and Social Enterprises is a key factor which allows the organisations achieve even greater impact. We are very grateful to the Thomson Reuters Foundation (the philanthropic arm of Thomson Reuters) and its TrustLaw team for organising the legal health check workshop for NGOs, Social Enterprises and local charities, which took place in Warsaw yesterday. TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal programme, connecting the best law firms and corporate legal teams around the world with NGOs.
A number of key foundations participated in the event such as the Polish Humanitarian Action (Polska Akcja Humanitarna), Panoptykon Foundation and Citizens Network Watchdog Poland.
Lawyers from Woźniak Legal (Grzegorz Dudek and Wojciech Giemza) and Allen & Overy discussed with the participants a broad range of topics, from addressing common operational legal needs which not for profit organisations may face such as commercial contracts, corporate governance, employment law, intellectual property, data protection and charity law, to providing legal guidance on an organisation’s advocacy efforts to create meaningful change at a grassroots level.
The opportunity to take part in such a unique pro-bono legal project allows us to provide high-impact not for profit organisations with innovative legal advice, which in turn helps them to make groundbreaking social change.
