We attended the 22nd Annual International Wealth Transfer Practices Conference which took place in London on 6-7 March 2017. It was organized by the Individual Tax and Private Client Committee of the IBA. The conference is a very important annual event to Private Client practitioners, which attracts regularly over 150 professionals from more than 40 jurisdictions (it was fully booked this year). The conference was held at a prestigious venue - the Claridge's hotel. The conference reception and dinner was held at the Banking Hall at Cornhill, which is a spectacular venue located in the heart of the City.
The conference focused on issues related to wealth management, asset protection, matrimonial property regimes, and tax compliance. The conference panels revolved around i.a. recent trends associated with changes to inheritance, estate and wealth taxes across different jurisdictions. Some of the speakers tackled with the impact of CRS and rising compliance trends on wealth management. The conference also featured a specialist experts' panel on personal security, who discussed kidnapping and other extortionist attacks on high net worth individuals, as well as providing safety to them.
The conference is not only an educational event, but also a fantastic networking opportunity, where new business relationships can be forged.
