17th edition of Fraud, Asset Tracing and Recovery conference will be held in Geneva on 16-17 March 2023 on cryptocurrencies, fraud, law enforcement and compensation for victims of fraud.
Our managing partner - Grzegorz Woźniak will be speaking on 17 March at 11.30 am on:
“Practical Guide to Obtaining Compensation for Victims of Fraud: The Realities of Restitution for Fraud Victims.”
Most fraud victims are very concerned about how they can recover from the financial losses that they have suffered as a result of the fraudulent activity, and there is often a huge gap between orders of restitution and actual recovery. In many fraud cases, restitution may be ordered where victims of the fraud have suffered the loss of money or other tangible assets, but there are significant barriers in the way of being compensated – including insolvency, jurisdictional hurdles, evidential challenges, and difficulty in tracing assets. The panelists from common law and civil law countries will be discussing methods for overcoming barriers to recovery.
The key topics for the discussion will be:
- How to obtain information about what has happened to assets? (this is usually critical point in recovery process)
- What are the available enforcement techniques in the jurisdiction?
- The role of injunctions (naturally injunctions vary from country to country but have many common features).
Join us in this session in Geneva on 17 March 2023.
